Work for a Purpose

By: Shiras KK (Employee Welfare Manager)

The key to success in any job is staying motivated and inspired. It is easy to get bored if you are tied up to the same routines and tasks day after day. We work to earn a living and to build a career, but both primary goals have the tendency to discourage us once the going gets tough.

Taking a step back and reflecting on "what we do and why we do" is one strategy for maintaining motivation. What is the wider picture of our job and how does it impact on the environment we live in?

To start focusing on a bigger influence means having the drive to prepare ourselves for something that goes beyond our personal objective and serves a much more significant purpose.

GIVE OUR BEST

We should all strive to be the best at what we do in our work. Being the best means going above and beyond expectations, challenging and pushing ourselves to become better than yesterday, and taking the initiative to learn and grow continuously. In the process of stretching our skills, we may even discover new passion and interests.
When we strive to be the best, we become more confident in our abilities and motivated to reach our goals. We also become more valuable to our colleagues, employers, and clients.

DEVELOP A PASSION

We can never go wrong with passion. The most successful people are those who have developed a passion for what they do.
If we are passionate about out work, we naturally desire to constantly improve and grow. This can mean taking on new challenges, learning new skills, or simply taking the time to reflect on what we are doing and how we can do it better. We get inspired to keep an open mind to new ideas and approaches which can help us stay at the top of our game. Ultimately, passion leads us to take ownership of our work with positivity, appreciate the credit and embrace lapses with full responsibility.

WORK WITH THE TEAM

Finally, in order to continue being a good team member who is focused on team achievement rather than individual benefits, we should think about respecting the strengths of our colleagues. Being a good team player starts with being humble enough to acknowledge our weaknesses and allowing our colleagues to utilize their strengths.
Making a livelihood is the main objective, but in order to maintain our drive when we are on the verge of burnout, we must continue to be inspired and emotionally intelligent enough to deliver and improve. Staying motivated and inspired in the workplace can help us deliver and become better.
It will not be difficult for us to wake up every morning, get out of bed, and go to work once we allow ourselves to be led by all of these.
