In October 2014, Rajendran Ramakrishnan joined QSS as a Camp Boss in our workers’ accommodation. Due to his outstanding performance, demonstrated through successful internal and external accommodation audits, he was promoted to Catering Supervisor for our labor camp at HBK Stadium. Following the completion of that project, he was assigned to various locations as a Catering Supervisor, most recently in Mowasalat Catering, where he also took on administrative and coordination responsibilities.


How has working here impacted your life and your family back home?


I arrived in Qatar on October 1, 2014, captivated by the rapid development around me and the opportunities that lay ahead. The Qatar National Vision 2030 inspired me, and I knew joining QSS was my chance to contribute to something truly dynamic and forward-thinking.


Working at QSS has truly been a transformative experience for me. It has provided the financial stability I desperately needed to support my family back home, allowing me to cover essential expenses like education and healthcare. Knowing that I can contribute to their well-being brings me immense joy and relief. Even before I arrived in Qatar, my priority was to uplift not just my own career but also to elevate my family’s standard of living. This journey is not just about professional growth; it’s about creating a better future for the ones I love.


What challenges did you face when you first arrived, and how did you overcome them?


When I first arrived, adapting to a new culture and environment was challenging, and I often felt like an outsider. However, I pushed through by connecting with my colleagues and participating in local activities. Embracing the culture helped transform what initially felt foreign into something familiar. QSS has a warm, welcoming atmosphere that makes it easier to adapt. Before long, I found my place and truly felt a sense of belonging.


Can you share a specific moment or achievement here that you are particularly proud of?


One of my proudest moments was leading the catering team for a large-scale event during FIFA 2022. It was exhilarating to showcase our capabilities, and the positive feedback from clients made all our hard work worthwhile. This experience reinforced the importance of teamwork and dedication. Despite the pressure, we focused on solutions instead of complaints, ensuring we adhered to the highest standards and regulations. Our goal was to deliver exceptional service while keeping any behind-the-scenes challenges hidden from our customers, resulting in highly satisfied guests.


What new skills or experiences have you gained since joining the company?


Since becoming part of QSS, I’ve picked up so many valuable skills:


  • Catering: I’ve learned the ins and outs of food safety standards, ensuring we always meet health regulations while enhancing customer service.

  • Housekeeping Management: Understanding the high standards required for cleanliness and organization has been crucial for guest satisfaction.

  • Facility Management: I’ve gained experience coordinating maintenance requests and working with service providers, ensuring our facilities are always in top shape.


These experiences across different departments have deepened my understanding of our organization and improved my adaptability and teamwork.


How do you stay motivated to keep improving and advancing in your role?


Staying motivated is rooted in my commitment to high standards in both kitchen operations and facility management. I understand that I won’t always be perfect, but I strive to be my best at all times. One valuable lesson QSS has instilled in me is the importance of pursuing quality in everything I do. I thrive on problem-solving and collaboration, and there’s nothing more rewarding than seeing satisfied customers. Their happiness fuels my drive to continuously improve and push for better results.


What advice would you give to your colleagues who are working to achieve similar goals?

My advice? Make it a habit to give your best in everything you do. Always prioritize quality and pay meticulous attention to detail, whether you’re managing the kitchen or overseeing facilities. Stay organized and proactive in tackling challenges, and never settle for the results if you know you can achieve more. Collaboration with your team is essential, and continuous learning will enhance your skills. Remember, consistency and a commitment to excellence are the keys to success.


How do you balance your work with staying connected to your family and home country?


Staying connected to my family is a top priority for me. I make it a point to schedule regular calls, no matter how busy I get. Technology makes it easier to keep in touch, and I use my time off to reconnect fully. This balance helps me stay grounded and focused at work.




What has been the most rewarding part of your journey here in Qatar?


Since I joined the company in 2014, I’ve learned that hard work and adaptability can turn challenges into stepping stones for success. It’s been a journey filled with ups and downs, all while supporting my family back home. Each day reinforces my commitment to excellence and personal growth—not just for myself, but for those around me as well.

The most rewarding part of this journey has been the personal and professional growth I’ve experienced. Working in such a dynamic and positive environment has allowed me to refine my skills and tackle new challenges. QSS fosters a culture of developing key performers, which leads to promotions and encourages everyone to strive for excellence. The diverse, supportive team has made this experience incredibly fulfilling, and it’s deeply satisfying to see the positive impact of my work.



What are your future goals, and how do you see yourself achieving them?


I aim to continue developing my leadership skills and expertise in catering and facility management. I plan to achieve these goals by staying updated on industry trends, continuously learning, and collaborating closely with my team to drive innovation. I’m also looking forward to more learning and development initiatives from the company that will prepare us for higher roles and more challenging tasks in the future. This commitment to growth not only benefits us as individuals but also strengthens the entire organization.


What has always been your philosophy in life?


“Hard work and perseverance are essential, but they alone are not enough to stand out. We must embrace a love for excellence and quality. Many people work hard, but what truly sets us apart is our relentless quest for quality and organized execution. This philosophy has guided me throughout my career, particularly in balancing kitchen supervision and facility management. By staying committed to these ideals, I’ve been able to overcome obstacles and achieve meaningful results.
